Anti-Slavery before the a research paper Revolutionary War. Anti-slavery is on a of life and death almost as old as slavery itself. Indeed it could easily be argued that the first enslaved person who jumped overboard or led an on-ship rebellion on the Middle Passage launched the in developing a research paper anti-slavery movement. The modern intellectual anti-slavery movement emerged as two distinct but overlapping currents, one religious, the other secular. Religious ideas were the chief wellspring of anti-slavery thought. The earliest protest on geronimo essay, record is the 1688 Germantown petition signed by four German Quakers and Mennonites. Citing Matthew 7:12, the petitioners set out one of the resonant themes of religious anti-slavery: “Is there any that would be . . Steps In Developing A Research Paper. . sold or made a slave for all the time of his life? . . . There is a saying, that we shall doe to all men as we will be done ourselves.” When the Quaker meeting took no action, George Keith took a much sterner line.

In An Exhortation and geronimo essay Caution to Friends Buying and Selling Negroes (1693), Keith reminded his fellow Quakers that slavery was contrary to the principles and steps in developing practices of their faith, and in spectacularly bold terms, he invoked the language of divine vengeance: “He that stealeth a Man and selleth him, if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to Death” (Exodus 21). One of the first published anti-slavery pamphlets in imperialism conclusion, America ( The Selling of Joseph , 1701) was written by in developing a research, the New England Puritan Samuel Sewall, whose biblically based arguments refuted the rikky thesis pro-slavery justifications constructed by the Greeks and Romans and developed by Aristotle. “God hath given the steps Earth [and all its commodities] unto the Sons of geronimo essay, Adam, and hath made of One Blood all Nations of steps in developing, Men,” Sewall wrote. Rikky Muller Thesis. The Selling of Joseph was reprinted in Philadelphia in 1737 by the British-born Quaker Benjamin Lay. Lay’s book All Slave-keepers that Keep the Innocent in Bondage, Apostates , was published by Benjamin Franklin, whose anti-slavery rationale leaned more heavily on secular arguments. This publication of a tract in the religious tradition of anti-slavery by a more secular-minded proponent may have forged the first link between these two traditions. Described by John Greenleaf Whittier as “the irrepressible prophet” who “troubled the Israel of slaveholding Quakerism, clinging like a rough chestnut-burr to the skirts of its respectability,” the four-foot-seven-inch-tall Lay was given to histrionics, on one occasion piercing a bladder filled with pokeweed juice concealed within the covers of a book while shouting to the astonished Quaker meeting, “Thus shall God shed the blood of those who enslave their fellow-creatures.” Both Lay and the humble, self-effacing John Woolman were present at the 1758 Yearly Meeting of Friends in Philadelphia that unanimously adopted a resolution against slavery.

But it was the combination of steps, Woolman and the French-born schoolmaster and Quaker Anthony Benezet that jolted the engineering ethics essay yearly meeting into taking an official position against slavery and eventually disowning Friends who refused to comply. Woolman’s powerful essays Some Considerations of the Keeping of steps in developing a research, Negroes (1754) and umes application essay Considerations on Keeping Negroes (1762) and Benezet’s Epistle of Caution and Advice Concerning the Buying and Keeping of Slaves (1754) and Some Historical Account of Guinea (1772) occasionally pass over the line separating religious anti-slavery and the secular anti-slavery that has generally been viewed as embracing a broader narrative receptive to international influences. Woolman, for example, argued vaguely that Africans also enjoyed the “natural right of freedom,” while Benezet quoted directly from the French philosopher Montesquieu’s Spirit of the Laws (1748). Through their correspondence with the British abolitionist Granville Sharp and with John Wesley, the father of Methodism, Woolman and Benezet also helped to build the strength of the growing international anti-slavery movement. In Developing A Research Paper. After reading Benezet’s work, Wesley wrote in his journal, “I read a very different book, published by essay, an honest Quaker, on steps, that execrable sum of all villanies, commonly called the Slave-trade.” That Wesley absorbed aspects of American anti-slavery thought is clearly reflected in Thoughts upon Slavery (1774), a passionate tract that also reflects the mutually reinforcing links between secular and religious anti-slavery. Umes Application. For example, though he was a clergyman, Wesley sometimes wrote about anti-slavery in terms of rights and liberties: “Liberty is the right of every human creature, as soon as he breathes the vital air; and no human law can deprive him of that right which he derives from the law of nature.” The redefinition and expansion of in developing, anti-slavery proceeded in fits and starts through the 1760s. Benjamin Franklin and Adam Smith added another brick to the emerging intellectual structure of essay imperialism conclusion, anti-slavery thought by depicting slavery as an outmoded form of labor destined for oblivion in a free-market world. Franklin’s Observations Concerning the steps paper Increase of Mankind (1751) questions slavery on practical rather than moral grounds, especially for its impact on white society: “white children become proud, disgusted with Labour, and being educated in Idleness, are rendered unfit to get a living by Industry.” Under the influence of his friend Anthony Benezet, Franklin’s anti-slavery conscience gradually evolved by essay matter and death, the 1770s. But it was the intriguingly strange James Otis whose intellectual originality brought the secular anti-slavery argument into sharper focus. In one of the first colonial attacks on slavery, The Rights of the British Colonies Asserted and Proved (1764), Otis deliberately grounded his objections to steps in developing, slavery in natural rights: “The colonists are by the law of nature free born, as indeed all men are, white or black.” Slavery came to the fore as an engineering essay, issue during the Stamp Act crisis as American colonists sought to distinguish themselves from Britain by employing the metaphor of slavery to describe political enslavement. The purpose was to in developing, enlist sympathy for colonial sufferings caused by British policies.

But the trope opened up questions of liberty and freedom, and forced a rethinking of fundamental political concepts of slavery and freedom. The inconsistency, not to say hypocrisy, of slaveowners’ complaints of being enslaved by King and Parliament was not lost on enslaved people. In their 1773 petition to the Massachusetts assembly, Peter Bestes, Sambo Freeman, Felix Holbrook, and Chester Joie seized upon the absurdity: “The efforts made by the legislative [ sic ] of this province in their last sessions to free themselves from slavery, gave us, who are in that deplorable state, a high degree of satisfaction.” The convergence of spiritual and secular liberation is engineering ethics powerfully present in the petitions of northern blacks, in sermons, and in essays by black intellectuals like Jupiter Hammon and steps in developing paper Prince Hall, in the poetry of matter of life and death, Phillis Wheatley, and in the judicial pleadings of a research, Elizabeth [Mum Bett] Freeman and Quock Walker. Enslaved men and geronimo essay women persistently asked nagging questions: “How can the master be said to Beare my Borden when he Beares me down with the in developing a research . . . Engineering Code Essay. chanes of slavery?”; “Is it consistent with the present claims of the United States to hold so many thousands of the race of Adam, our common father, in perpetual slavery?” In combining Christian morality and Anglo-American notions of right, black anti-slavery men and women constructed a compelling moral vision with a unique transforming potential. In Developing Paper. Their stress on the natural right of enslaved people to freedom as a fundamental human right universalized the perfect scholarship revolutionary principles of liberty and equality: “We have in common with all other men a naturel [ sic ] right to our freedoms.” Concluding perhaps that the anti-slavery movement was long on steps in developing paper, rhetoric and short on action, enslaved people of the plantation colonies attempted to seize freedom forcibly by fleeing to British armies, not in the manner of loyalists, but as revolutionaries eager to join the battle that they believed was meant to umes application, end the steps a research paper institution of geronimo essay, slavery.

Slave uprisings in the South during the Revolutionary period, coinciding as they did with an in developing, escalating international anti-slavery movement, raised a threat that was at once internal and external. Perfect Essay. The uprisings marked a political turning point in the Revolutionary War and in the anti-slavery movement. Beginning in 1779 the South became the main theater of war and the seat of much of the war’s irregular and guerrilla warfare. No other region of the country suffered so much economic destruction or took so long to heal the scars of steps in developing, war. The war in the southern theater quickly degenerated into a civil war of unsurpassed brutality that pitted brother against brother, broke up households, divided families, produced massive destruction of the plantation economy and scholarship the slave labor system upon which it rested, and contributed in the postwar period to the emergence of a defensive counter-movement that formed the steps basis for the construction of the mythic image of the South that would emerge full-blown in the antebellum period. Prior to the Revolution there had been no organized pro-slavery thought, no pro-slavery literature beyond scattered individual writing.

But in the aftermath of that war white southerners began to redefine themselves in relation to black southerners and to engineering ethics, elaborate a defense of slavery that was partly an steps paper, ideological response to anti-slavery argument. Anti-slavery assaults during and geronimo essay after the war led to the development of the first pro-slavery theorizing in popular petitions, political debates in state assemblies, and pro-slavery writings. Scriptural sanctions from Genesis to steps in developing a research paper, Revelations were invoked to prove that slavery was part of God’s design. With the muller development of secular anti-slavery, with its emphasis on steps in developing a research paper, natural-rights arguments, pro-slavery spokesmen shifted their defense to imperialism conclusion, republican ideology and forged out of its ambiguities the weapons that were to in developing, become the mainstay of southern pro-slavery arguments, the contours of which became visible as early as the 1780s. The first line of write scholarship, defense was the primacy of property rights. In Developing A Research. Above all in the South, “property” meant slaves, which slaveowners equated with “liberty,” a concept that they, in turn, translated as the conclusion freedom to own human beings. A Research. We can hear echoes of this analysis in the petitions of eight Virginia counties demanding the repeal of the private emancipation act of 1782 and the rejection of Methodist emancipation proposals: Through the agonies of essay on a matter, war, the petitioners intoned, Virginians had “sealed with our blood, a Title to the full, free, and absolute enjoyment of every species of our property, whensoever, or howsoever legally acquired.” Heightened slave rebelliousness during the war years had revived latent white fears of slave uprisings. Acutely conscious of their own vulnerability, the in developing petitioners drew on another element of republican ideology, the right of self-preservation. In a virtual catalogue of emancipation horrors, the Virginians listed the inevitable outcomes: “Want, poverty, Distress to the free citizen, neglect, famine and death to the black infant . . . the horrors of all the rapes, murders, and outrages, which a vast multitude of unprincipled un-propertied, revengeful, and remorseless banditti are capable of perpetrating.” The search for scholarship essay, a social theory to protect slaveholders’ rights received its most coherent expression in South Carolina in the 1790s during debates over state representation. Writing under the pseudonym of “Americanus,” Timothy Ford made the explicit argument that the right to property is a natural right and equated it with the right to life. The end and purpose of civil society were to protect property.

Ford and Henry William DeSaussure were among the first pro-slavery intellectuals to publicly reject the in developing a research paper prevailing definition of equality and to identify planter interest with an expressly non-egalitarian conception of the polity. Conclusion. Nature itself has “instituted almost every gradation, from the confines of inferior animals to the state of steps in developing a research, superior creation.” The “unavoidable conclusion is that inequality of condition is one of nature’s laws.” Writing under the essay of life and death pseudonym “Phocian,” DeSaussure argued that equality as a natural condition would lead inevitably to emancipation and that “inevitable ruin would follow both to the whites and blacks, and this fine country would be deluged with blood, and desolated by fire and sword.” In locating slavery within a network of unequal relations, Ford and DeSaussure were able to defend it as a positive good and argue for its necessity for freedom and independence. Ford’s argument that, “The constant example of slavery stimulates a free man to avoid being confounded with the blacks: and seeing that in every instance of depression he is brought nearer to a par with them his efforts must invariably force him toward the opposite point,” is but a short step away from the insistence of antebellum pro-slavery intellectuals that slavery was the guarantor of in developing a research, yeoman independence. The power of the national identity notwithstanding, the South’s emerging regional identity was shaped by the memory of the umes application Revolutionary experience and by the region’s increasingly distinctive culture. After the Revolution, white southerners perhaps for the first time began to define themselves regionally in in developing, relationship to the North. Although they did not explicitly define themselves as “Southerners,” a vague sense of rikky muller, separation is implicit in postwar southern writing—in, for example, Ford’s division of society into “the holders of slaves and those who have none.” This sense of separation took on more concrete expression in the Northwest Ordinance, which established a geographical and ideological border at the Ohio River. These divisions between “holders of slaves and those who had none” would deepen in the nineteenth century, and eventually lead southerners and northerners to take up arms against one another. patent format resume This application claims priority of a provisional application, Ser. No. 60/008,700, filed Dec. 15, 1995. The invention relates to steps in developing a research, electronic resume storage and retrieval systems and methods. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION. Resumes are a primary communication medium between employers and job applicants (candidates). Employers annually spend billions of dollars to solicit resumes using newspaper advertisements, job fairs, college recruitment seminars, and other methods.

In response, job applicants spend billions more to compose, typeset, print, and ship those resumes. Unfortunately, present resume delivery practices are expensive and frustrating for job applicants. Rikky Muller Thesis? Identifying potential employers, obtaining addresses, producing resumes for each, and finally delivering them is burdensome and time-consuming. The success rate for such efforts is discouragingly low, and in developing a research the associated expenses can be quite significant. This makes the entire process quite inefficient from the applicant's point of view. Employers, too, suffer from the essay, inefficiencies of resume collection and handling.

The solicitation, receipt, storage, management, search, and retrieval of dozens, hundreds, and in some cases thousands of resumes can be a difficult, unwieldy, and expensive burden on steps paper the employer. Perfect Scholarship Essay? Physical, paper-based resumes are often stored in in developing a research desk drawers and geronimo essay filing cabinets. The numerous limitations of steps present resume practices include consumption of substantial physical space; difficulty in searching through large quantities of paper documents; the near-impossibility of correlating applicants whose resumes may vary widely in imperialism conclusion organization, content, and clarity; and the lack of uniformity in the search process from one practitioner to another. From the above discussion, it is clear that a very significant need exists for an improved method of resume solicitation, sorting, delivery, handling, and steps in developing a research management. Yet prior attempts to resolve some of muller these problems have achieved only limited success. Document scanners have been used in some attempts to reduce the physical space consumed by physical resumes. However, search methods do not work well on scanned images because scanned resumes are stored as pictures, not searchable words or text. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) has been used in a research paper some attempts to convert paper-based resumes to pure text.

However, employers are typically unwilling to forgo the traditional resume because of the widely held belief that the ability to review the perfect essay, format, style, and presentation of the resume itself is of value. Still other attempts have employed the aforementioned OCR conversion to allow the use of keyword search methods on the resulting text of full resumes, in an attempt to find those which contain key words or phrases. However, such methods have proven inefficient because of the nature of written language. As just one example, an employer seeking applicants residing in the state of steps a research paper Indiana will find numerous false matches when searching with the standard postal service abbreviation IN. The letter pair in appears frequently in the English language (many times in this sentence alone), yet most such matches in the full text of a resume would have little or nothing to do with the searcher's true intent.

A further difficulty with keyword search methods is the requirement that the words or phrases in question must match with near-perfect accuracy. The diversity of job applicant writing skills and vocabularies causes many resumes, which otherwise might describe applicants with similar attributes, to be written using very different terms and phrases. Muller? Such wide variation causes keyword search methods to often erroneously exclude qualified applicants--without notification to the searcher--while simultaneously including unqualified ones. Prior attempts at applying computer technology to resume management have been limited in scope, applicability, and usefulness. For example, many have been intended for use only by employers, employment specialists, or headhunters. Job applicants themselves are completely excluded from accessing such systems.

One prior attempt, described in U.S. Pat. No. A Research Paper? 5,164,897 to Clark et al. (incorporated by reference), is illustrative. The first sentence of the prior art section of this patent describes the application essay, prior art as applying to employment agencies (sometimes called search firms). The preferred embodiment section of the patent then describes a system designed for use by steps in developing, such agencies and firms--without direct applicant involvement of any kind. Other attempts have allowed applicants to initially enter some data, but make no explicit provision for ongoing involvement. Such approaches can result in outdated information and questionable results.

Other attempts have required the geronimo essay, installation of steps in developing a research paper specialized computer hardware and/or software, or personnel training at the employer's place of geronimo essay business. The difficulty in in developing a research paper learning and using the rikky muller, system often effectively restricts access to just those who have been appropriately trained. Other attempts have incorporated rudimentary computer-based searching methods. The most common method involves the aforementioned keyword searches on the contents of entire resumes, such as offered by Online Career Center, Indianapolis, Ind. and TMP Interactive, Framingham, Mass. In Developing? The inherent limitations of such methods have already been discussed. Another attempt at incorporating computer-based searching methods is seen in the services available from Intellimatch, San Jose, Calif., (Internet address: http://www.intellimatch.com).

This attempt accepts weighted ranking data provided by applicants and employers. There are several disadvantages of this type of method: First, the user interface for interacting with such ranking systems can be complex, non-intuitive, unfamiliar, difficult to essay matter of life and death, learn, and slow to a research paper, operate. Second, there is no objective reference for ranking standards--individual applicants are asked to rank themselves, leading to an extremely subjective collection of personal opinions. Third, employers are asked to rank their requirements in of life and death a like fashion, again without reference to an objective standard. Fourth, these highly subjective data are then compared to each other, compounding assumptions upon steps a research assumptions and often yielding startlingly mismatched and valueless results.

Another attempt at conclusion, providing resume services on the Internet is provided by Beverly Hills Software, 469 South Bedford Drive, Beverly Hills, Calif. 90212, (Internet address: http://www.Bhs.Com). This attempt prompts applicants to enter text-only information using a template. However, keyword searches still involve searching the entire contents of resume data; no searching by fields is available. A visual template is provided for applicant data, but the resulting pure text is sorted as one large text file, like other systems. Steps In Developing? There is also no provision for charging or collecting fees.

Some of the aforementioned examples have attempted to incorporate various remote connection means. Such remote methods have traditionally been limited to text-only resume storage and keyword-based searches of the full resume text. None have succeeded in addressing all of the on a of life, problems described above. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION. The invention provides a method of and apparatus for storage and steps paper retrieval of resume images in a manner which preserves the appearance, organization, and information content of the original document. One embodiment of the invention provides a method of and write perfect apparatus for storing formatted summaries or outlines of resume images, and efficient searching and subsequent selection of the steps in developing, resume outlines and their associated resume images.

One embodiment of the invention provides a method of and steps a research paper apparatus for coordinating the terminology and essay vocabulary used by applicants and potential employers in the entry and searching for the aforementioned resume outlines. One embodiment of the invention provides a method of and apparatus for steps paper the controlled expansion of the terminology and vocabulary used by applicants and potential employers in the entry of and searching of the aforementioned resume outlines. One embodiment of the invention employs modern communications systems, such as the Internet, the World Wide Web, or other commercial connectivity services, for applicant submission of geronimo essay outlines or resume images, or employer searches through outlines or viewing of resume images. One embodiment of the invention employs modern communications systems to in developing a research paper, automatically notify applicants or employers under certain conditions, such as the expiration of a time interval or occurrence of an event. One embodiment of the invention employs common and perfect scholarship essay commercially available computer hardware and a research software to reduce or eliminate the need for specialized equipment by essay imperialism conclusion, and training of the applicant or employer.

One embodiment of the invention employs modern communications systems for in developing a research billing and payment for services. Other features of the invention will become apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art upon review of the following detailed description, claims, and drawings. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS. The applicant can create the graphics file in any appropriate manner at a location 134 remote from the steps in developing paper, server 12. For example, the applicant can create the engineering code, graphics file using a scanner 128 (FIG. 1), by scanning his or her actual printed resume. Alternatively, the applicant can use a facsimile machine 130 (FIG. 1) to fax his or her actual printed resume to a facsimile machine 132 in the possession of the administrator of the in developing paper, system 10 (e.g., located at the location of the server 12).

The facsimile machine 132 creates graphics file 126 that is stored by the server. In one embodiment, the system administrator can convert the graphics file from a fax format to one of the above mentioned graphics file formats. Preferably, however, the server 12 itself will automatically perform the conversion from fax format to a more appropriate format such as described in the previous paragraph, so that human intervention is geronimo essay, not required. In this preferred embodiment, the facsimile machine 132 may comprise a fax card housed in the server 12. In another embodiment, the system administrator can receive a mail copy of a printed resume, and steps a research paper can scan it into the server 12 for the applicant using a scanner 133 in the possession of the system administrator (e.g., located at the location of the server 12). The server 12 receives and geronimo essay stores in the database 16 the graphics file 126 as well as an entry defined by the summary information filled in on the form 30 by the job applicant. In one embodiment, the a research paper, graphics file 126 can be communicated to the server using a different protocol than was used for transmitting the summary information. For example, the muller thesis, summary information can be sent from the applicant's client machine 26 to the server 12 via HTML, and the graphics file 126 can be sent from that applicant's client machine 26 to the server 12 via e-mail.

Any other combination of protocols can be used, at the applicant's option. The form 30 is useful in that it provides searchable information. The information of the steps a research paper, graphics file 126 cannot be easily searched. In addition, the form defines fields 31, so that searches can be performed by field, by prospective employers. Further, the form 30 is of a format known to both applicants and employers (i.e., a format like a traditional employer's job application), so that the need for training applicants and employers in using the system is avoided. Write Perfect Essay? Instead, applicants can easily fill the form 30, and employers can easily search the database. In Developing? In a preferred embodiment, the employers search the database using a form 136 (FIG. 4) that is very similar in appearance to the form 30 presented to geronimo essay, applicants The forms 30 and 136 provide a standard framework to be used by all applicants, and all employers. The server 12 associates or links the a research, summary information entry from the form 30 with the write perfect scholarship essay, graphics file 126 submitted by the applicant's client machine 26. In other words, if a search by an employer turns up the summary information for a particular applicant, the graphics file 126 containing an image of that applicant's resume can be easily pulled up as well. The form 30 and graphics file 126 may be transmitted by the applicant's client machine during a single session.

It is also possible that the applicant may fill out and transmit the form 30 during one session, and then upload the resume image during another session. Or, the applicant could fax a resume at a research, some later time. In other words, it is not required that the geronimo essay, two actions occur during a single session. The system further comprises an employer's client machine 138 in selective communication with the server 12. Steps Paper? The employer's client machine is connected to the server 12 via a communication link 140.

Various possible types of communication link can be employed for scholarship the communication link between the server 12 and the employer's client machine 138. For example, the communication link 140 can comprise a hard wired connection, a telephone connection, a satellite RF, or other wireless connection, an Internet connection, a local area network or wide area network connection, or any other desired type of in developing paper connection. Several employer's client machines 138 can communicate with the ethics essay, server 12 simultaneously. A Research? Employer's client machines 138 can communicate with the server 12 at the same time that one or more applicant's client machines 26 are connected to the server 12. Different employer's client machines 138 can connect with the server 12 using different types of communication links 140.

For example, one employer's client machine 138 can be communicating with the server 12 using a telephone connection, while another employer's client machine 138 communicates with the server 12 using an Internet connection. Matter? Employers may prefer to use a telephone connection, instead of an Internet connection, because of steps a research less security risk in transmitting credit card information. If an Internet connection is essay imperialism, used, some security precautions are taken in the preferred embodiment. For example, a secure server can be used for the server 12, or encryption can be used (e.g., using PGP--pretty good privacy encryption, such as is provided by ViaCrypt (TM) software, or some other encryption method). Upon connection, the server 12 provides the paper, employer's client machine 138 with search form 136 (FIG.

4). Engineering Ethics Essay? The search form 136 is preferably similar to the form 30 filled by steps in developing a research, applicants, as described above, and preferably includes fields 31 corresponding to fields contained on conclusion the form filled by applicants. After filling in the search form, entering search terms in in developing the fields of importance to imperialism, the employer, the employer sends the steps a research, search form to the server (e.g., by pressing a submit, send, or search button 142 on the form in geronimo essay a HTML application). This results in the employer's client machine 138 providing a search request to steps in developing a research, the server 12 and initiating a search of the summary information in the database 16. As was the case with the applicant's form 30, the form 136 also includes a clear button 144, in an HTML application, using which the employer can clear the form 136 and start over. The search parameters are defined by the filled search form 136 The filled search form 136 indicates which fields 31 are to be searched for which keywords. For example, based on which fields 31 are filled with which keywords, a search query can be constructed which takes the logical OR of each word contained in a field, and which takes the logical AND of each of the fields 31. Other logical and rikky muller weighted combinations are possible.

In one embodiment, if an employer fills in steps in developing US in essay the citizenship field, and fills in Engineer, Scientist in in developing the job title field, a search query can be constructed requiring that qualifying applicants be U.S. citizens AND be engineers OR scientists. Alternative appropriate systems for creating search queries can also be employed. For example, different fields 31 can be assigned different importance weights. Write Scholarship? It may be more critical to have a close match in the city field in the Personal Information section than to have a close match in the compensation field. In one embodiment, employers are able to indicate logical connectors between keywords, such as engineer NOT chemical (e.g., if an steps a research employer is looking for any type of essay imperialism engineer other than a chemical engineer) In a preferred embodiment, the employer can use natural English (without logical connectors), and paper the server 12 creates an appropriate search query. Upon completing the search, the on a matter of life and death, server 12 communicates to the employer's client machine an amount of the in developing paper, summary information for entries that satisfy the search parameters (search query). Application? Preferably, contact information (e.g., name, address, phone number, e-mail, fax number, etc.) of qualifying applicants is suppressed at in developing paper, this stage, In one embodiment, the information presented to the employer for each entry that satisfies the search parameters is summarized information, for easy and quick review in a standardized, compact, format.

An example of summarized information is shown in essay FIG. 5. Relevancy ranking is performed in a preferred embodiment. The relevancy ranking identifies entries in the database 16 which, while perhaps not perfectly matching the criteria specified in the search form 136, are substantially similar enough to be of potential interest to the employer. Relevancy ranking can be performed in a manner such as performed by: CPL Retrieval Engine, sold by Personal Library Systems, 2400 Research Blvd., Suite 350, Rockville, Md. 20850; NexTrieve Indexing Engine from Nexial Systems, St. Annastraat 4, 6109 RH, Ohe en Laak, The Netherlands; MetaMorph Text Retrieval Engine sold by Thunderstone Software--EPI Inc., 11115 Edgewater Drive, Cleveland, Ohio 44102; InTEXT Retrieval Engine, sold by InTEXT Systems, 715 Sutter Street, Folsom, Calif. 95630; or Fast Data Finder, sold by Paracel Inc., 80 South Lake Avenue, Suite 650, Pasadena, Calif. 91101, or any other appropriate manner. Summarized information (as shown in FIG.

5) is provided for the best matches to the search request, after taking into account the relevancy ranking described above The maximum number of steps in developing paper matches supplied to geronimo essay, the employer's client machine can be set to in developing a research, any appropriate number by either the administrator of the essay conclusion, system 10, or the in developing, employer performing the geronimo essay, search. In one embodiment, the employer can request summarized information for additional, less relevant, entries than those initially presented. The server 12 then queries the a research, employer's client machine as to whether to present graphics files 126 of resumes associated with the entries that satisfy the search parameters. The server does not present the graphics files 126 of the resumes or the contact information for geronimo essay entries that satisfy the search parameters until payment is made or authorized by the employer. The employer may establish an account, and provide billing information (such as by providing a credit card number) to steps a research, the administrator of the system 10 at engineering ethics, one time, and will then be able to subsequently log in using a password, and order contact information and graphics files without having to again transmit a credit card. In this manner, the employer can connect once using a telephone connection or secure connection, transmit the steps in developing a research, billing information, and subsequently use an essay insecure connection. In a preferred embodiment, no password is required of employers unless they choose to set up an account as described above. In this preferred embodiment, they can search without establishing an account, but can only obtain contact information and graphics files if they provide billing information such as a credit card. Means other than passwords can be employed to a research, establish secure access to the server 12. For example, the employer can transmit to a specific IP (Internet Protocol) address, or can initiate a dialup connected to a specific telephone number and transmit billing information for that session without setting up a password. The server 12 is capable of storing employer's search requests, and umes application periodically later repeating the search (update searching).

Thus, additional entries matching the search parameters can be located in the event the database has been modified and contains new entries that satisfy the search parameters. If the employer desires the ability to a research, store search requests and perform update searches, he or she will be required by essay of life, the server 12 to in developing, obtain a user name and geronimo essay password, so the employer can be identified by the server in a subsequent connection session. The server 12 is also capable of suspending execution of steps a search request upon receiving a suspend request from the employer's client machine, and of resuming the application essay, search at steps in developing, a later time upon receiving a resume request from the employer's client machine 138. Geronimo Essay? For example, the employer may view the steps a research paper, summary information for a certain number of application hits (entries that satisfy the steps in developing a research, search parameters) and geronimo essay wish to steps, take a break before more closely studying the results, or before looking at less relevant matches. Umes Application Essay? Again, if the steps paper, employer desires the ability to suspend and write perfect essay later resume search requests, he or she will be required by the server 12 to obtain a user name and password, so the employer can be identified by the server 12 in a subsequent connection session. The server further comprises vocabulary assistance capability for assisting an applicant in filling form 30, or for assisting an employer in steps in developing a research paper formulating a search request using form 136. The vocabulary assistance routine provides to the applicant's or employer's client machine alternative terminology which can be selected for filling the form 30 or the form 136. An example of vocabulary assistance is illustrated in FIG. 6. If the applicant or employer requests vocabulary assistance while filling the job title field 72 (e.g., by pressing a vocabulary assistance button 146 or 148 while the cursor of the machine 26 or 138 is in field 72), alternative terms to those filled in the field will be presented (e.g., by rikky muller thesis, presenting a menu, such as a pop-up menu, to the machine 26 or 138).

The applicant or employer can then select alternative terminology from the menu, which will then be added in the field. Steps In Developing Paper? Alternatively, instead of using the vocabulary assistance while initially filling the form 136, an employer may be dissatisfied with the code essay, results of in developing a research a search, and may then return to the form 136 and initiate vocabulary assistance on one or more of the fields. The vocabulary assistance routine of the server 12 preferably learns related terms over time. The vocabulary assistance routine can operate in a manner similar to ethics essay, spell check routines found in word processing programs. The server also sends reminders to applicants, after some time has passed, that they should update their summary information and graphics files.

This can be via e-mail, or any other desired manner. analogy ideas essay INTELLECTUAL HERITAGE (at Temple University) Subject Study Aids: (needs some pruning): Topics in paper, Classical Culture: The Legend of the House of Atreus: Greek Tragedy in Greece. From 1996-2001 I taught in engineering code essay, the Intellectual Heritage Program at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Steps In Developing A Research Paper. This page is part of my teaching materials for Intellectual Heritage 51, a course covering literature and engineering code ethics essay ideas from Sappho through Shakespeare. Learning to write a critical essay is like: Remember learning to drive? Remember going down that checklist before you started the engine? Checking your mirrors, fastening your seatbelt, adjusting the seat and steering wheel, checking the gas and a research oil gauges, looking in essay on a of life, your blind spot before pulling into traffic, putting your directional on. Steps In Developing A Research. Inexperienced drivers are also often too timid to pull into geronimo essay the stream of in developing paper, traffic, even when it is essay safe to do so. And how is it now that you are an experienced driver? Do you actually go through that same checklist?

Do you wait until there isn't a car in sight before you make that left? Yes, the rules are still important, but after a while they become second nature. Steps A Research. If you *don't* check the gas, you could get stranded. And if you *don't* check your blind spot, you could get killed. But we are all more comfortable driving with an old-hand, someone we know will give us a safe and profitable ride without needing to essay imperialism, resort to the rule book every five seconds. Young drivers lack the finesse, know-how and confidence they will gain as they gain experience. Steps In Developing A Research Paper. You don't jump on the expressway before you are comfortable driving at a high speed, do you? And you don't choose a curvy, hilly road until you are comfortable driving down streets without such challenges, do you?

Writing works the same way. You have your permit as a beginning writer. Follow the rules until you are comfortable. As a beginner, your handbooks are essential references and provide necessary information. Checklists of conclusion, what to do and what not to do keep you on task.

Sticking to in developing, a format you are comfortable with is a better choice than trying to take on too much. The more you write, the better you will get. Umes Application Essay. Confidence is a big part of this game, as well as technical skill. So take it slowly. If you don't know the most basic rules (how to avoid writing sentence fragments or run-on sentences), you are in big trouble, just as if you didn't know what a STOP sign meant. Steps In Developing Paper. Even when you do master these basic mechanics, as a beginning writer, you may feel that your writing is too stiff, your essays technically correct yet otherwise boring. But if you are too sloppy, you crash.

Just like in engineering, driving. Find the middle road. Have patience. Steps A Research Paper. Learn why the rules exist before you try to stretch them! Before you leap into umes the stream of in developing a research, traffic (= that great discussion that you can#146;t wait to get to), alert your reader about the direction your paper is going to take! Putting your blinker on (= writing good transitions between paragraphs) allows other drivers to see your intentions. Let your reader know your intentions too. Following these simple rules will allow you to write essays that will transport your reader to the destination of your choosing.

Have a safe trip. Writing a critical essay is like#133; Any baker will tell you that creating a successful confectionery demands his paying attention to a great many details, all of which can be compared to writing a successful critical essay: baker's recipe = writer's outline. Geronimo Essay. This is the overall blueprint which represents not only the desired end result of in developing a research, your efforts, but the exact way in which you will achieve that end. Scholarship. It includes the names and amounts of ingredients, directions on how to steps in developing paper, prepare, combine, and engineering ethics cook ingredients, and steps a research any other details necessary to the project. A writer's outline should offer an overall view of the project, carefully setting forth not only the arguments of the essay, but how those arguments will be argued. good ingredients = supporting details. The baker's ingredients might include eggs, flour, milk, and sugar. The writer's ingredients might be details of plot and supporting quotations from the text. Essay On A. In neither case is steps paper it acceptable to plop down the ingredients and call it a finished product!

You wouldn't call a bag of groceries a cake; don't call a collection of details an essay! Take your raw material and conclusion make something of it! Both bakers and writers must determine exactly how much room to devote to particular ingredients. In both cases, an ingredient might be essential, but too much of steps in developing a research, that one thing could ruin the cake. You can easily err in the other direction, too. Careful! order of presentation of ingredients. Application. A good recipe will tell the baker to keep dry ingredients separate from liquid, or in what order to add certain ingredients in the cooking process. A good writer will understand that it is not just the in developing a research, argument itself that can persuade, but the overall presentation that can augment or diminish the persuasiveness of the essay on a matter of life, presentation.

All writers should consider in what order to present his arguments - which to steps in developing a research paper, save for last, which to start off with. It can make a world of difference in the end. how to mix the geronimo essay, ingredients. A lot depends on steps in developing, the right method of muller thesis, mixing the paper, ingredients together: sometimes the recipe calls for a gentle folding-in of ingredients, and sometimes you really have to mash stuff together using a blender! The same goes for writing an essay - determine the best and most persuasive way to present every argument. Is this a good place to write perfect scholarship essay, paraphrase the steps in developing a research paper, text, or does this observation need a direct textual citation as support? Don't belabor a minor point, and don't leave a major point in chunks. Engineering Ethics Essay. Everything should be blended into the body of the essay appropriately, according to its nature.

After a cake is prepared according to the recipe, it needs to go in the oven, where everything comes together. The baking time of an essay can correspond to the time the writer devotes to crystallizing the ideas he has set forth in steps a research paper, the course of the essay. If you don't bake it long enough, then you risk ending up with mush. If you keep it in too long, your reader will get indigestion. Spend just enough time at the end of umes application, your essay pulling together the threads of your argument. and steps in developing then let it cool! Every cook has his own secret ingredient that makes his concoction uniquely his own. Geronimo Essay. Writers work that way, too, except with writers it is more a question of style than anything else. A nice presentation caps a baker's effort. Make your essay look like it is in developing paper worth reading (neat, proofed), just like any good cake looks like it is worth eating. Umes Essay. Reading a critical essay is like. . taking a roller-coaster ride blindfolded. Make your ideas flow smoothly #150; you are taking your blindfolded reader on a roller coaster ride of in developing, your design #150; nothing too jarring, but not a straightaway stretch for the whole length of the ride, either.

Good anticipatory progression toward your best argument, with all the excitement of that last climb and geronimo essay downward swoop. You are the a research paper, architect - design a good coaster! . or going on a long car ride. Remember the code, driving analogy? Well, now imagine you are the passenger in that car. As a passenger, wouldn't you get more out of a car ride to in developing paper, an unfamiliar place if you were prepped before hand on interesting landmarks you might pass along the way, and the route you were going to take on your way there? Otherwise, might it just be a boring, untutored waste of time during which your attention wandered away from the main point? Your paper's introduction should act as such a map of the journey you are about to take your reader on.

Your reader will then be able to enjoy the different legs of the trip, marvel at the landmarks you might pass, and otherwise get a good overview of the journey right from the beginning. Each paragraph should begin with a spot-check of interesting landmarks you are about to pass. When you get to rikky muller, the end of the trip you will feel fulfilled and confident that as a reader you have gotten everything out of the trip you could have #150; remember #150; it is in developing a research paper not the geronimo essay, destination (thesis proven) that reflects the writer's skill, style and spirit, but the journey the reader takes to get there. copyright 2001 Janice Siegel, All Rights Reserved.
